OTF aggregates the power rankings and visits with the MLS pundits to see how they rate and rank our Men in Red…

Aggregate = 14/19 ( -3.4 from last week)

ESPN FC  (11)

“When a defender is trying to thwart a breakaway, sometimes it’s better to trust your goalkeeper. That’s the lesson for Bakary Soumare, who went for the tackle on Jairo Arrieta, committed a clear foul, and was deservedly sent off in a 3-0 defeat.”

Baky only trusts Baky. Funny, I thought soccer was a T.E.A.M. sport.

Soccer America (11)

“This isn’t the time for a meltdown, but a 3-0 loss in Columbus sparked by Bakary Soumare’s sending-off in the 29th minute indicates something is amiss. Five points in the last five games have dropped the Fire to sixth place.”

Those of us paying attention in Chi-town know something’s been amiss for a while.

NBC Sports Pro Soccer Talk (14)

“Losing to Columbus in Ohio could seriously come back to punish Frank Klopas’ men. Stumbling Montreal visits this weekend, a must-have three points for the Fire.”

Yeah, yeah. Stop me if you think that you’ve heard this one before. (15)

“They’ve got close a few times, been above the red line once. But one win in five, and a total pounding against a rival is unconvincing. Added woe is facing Montreal in a must-win without Baky Soumare, who’s crucial.”

Crucial to continue the status quo perhaps. Crucial to winning? Perhaps not.

Seattle Times (15)

“Lost 3-0 to go to 1-2-2 in its last five games, but still just a point out of a playoff position.”

A tiresome refrain?

Bleacher Report (16)

“Chicago had a perfect opportunity to extend their lead in the race for the fifth playoff spot in the East on Saturday. Instead, the Fire went into Columbus and lost not only the match but their spot in the playoffs as well. Frank Klopas and Co. must rebound against Montreal on Saturday to keep pace with the current fifth-place club, New England.”

Very matter of fact. Perhaps they will rebound, and imbue us with false hope for yet another week.

Sports Illustrated (16)

“The Fire were destined to drop points after Bakary Soumare’s early red card put the club in a 10-man hole en route to a 3-0 loss at Columbus. Chicago has a manageable schedule the rest of the way, and is one of four teams with a legitimate chance of snatching a wildcard berth, but a team with that much on the line should not be coming out that flat at this juncture in the season.”

…and that’s Real Talk.

I’ll need some information first
Just the basic facts
Can you show me where it hurts?
